An update of the Worldwide Integrated Assessment (WIA) on systemic insecticides. Part 3: alternatives to systemic insecticides

This article provides a good overview of research into a number of novel methods to evaluate and respond to pests. Alternative methods include a risk assessment tool that narrows down the conditions that predict wireworms as well as a Mutual Fund managed by farmer collectives designed to provide compensation for risks not general covered by traditional crop insurance. The paper also reviews a number of more traditional alternatives such as mating disruption, biological control and natural-derived insecticides.
